Overview
Ad Lightning's Scanning solution proactively captures ads on your site, allowing our platform to provide details on how they interact with the page before and after it loads in a live environment. Our technology takes a scan of the page and reports back all of the ad details, including the entire HTML source, along with a visual of the scanned ad. Our solution supports both Header Bidding and DFP API integrations.
How it works
The Ad Lightning Scanning solution is deployed in two ways:
Synthetic Audience Scanning: Our technology creates an audience that mimics actual site traffic by building user profiles comprised of various combinations of devices and user agents. These users then visit sites at random, building a realistic looking browser history and cookie profiles, before being stored in our system and pointed at a publisher's website. As the page loads, we capture all of the ad data associated with the ads and score the results.
Ad Tag Scanning: Ad Lightning can help augment website scanning with tag scanning for both Display and Video. This provides your site with additional coverage and can also help with specific demand tag testing. You can find more info on how to set up Display Tag Scanning and Video Tag Scanning in the links provided here. To navigate to Tag Scanning in the UI, select Tag Scans and then choose either Display or Video.
Setting Up Notifications
Setting up notifications is an easy, automated way for your internal team and network partners to receive Ad Lightning reports. Our reporting capabilities have a variety of notifications to offer, including Analytics, Malware, Redirects, and Critical alerts.

Configuration Options
ADL offers key features for client specific customization.
Denylist
Ad Lightning's scanning solution offers clients the capability to customize denylists for both scanning and blocking via the UI. Scanning capabilities include:
By default, Ad Lightning will always flag all Malicious subgroups in site scans.
Turning on/off the sensitive Categories being flagged in site scans, which will then be marked as critical.
If you have questions about our category taxonomy, you can find more information here.
Adding/removing Custom domains you want flagged in site scans. If you have competitive domains or domains you'd like to keep an eye on but don't want to outright block, you can upload a scanning denylist in the UI. You can do this by selecting Settings > Denylist (Note: At this time, new items you would like added to your custom blocklist must be sent to the ADL team to upload.)
To adjust the denylist settings in your account, click on "Settings" and then select the "Denylist" tab. From this section, you can make adjustments to either the default Malicious subgroups or optional sensitive Category subgroups by clicking the boxes you'd like to change and then selecting "Save Changes." If you forget to save your changes before navigating away from the page, the adjustments you made will not adhere.
Image Recognition
Ad Lightning utilizes image recognition, which gives publishers the option to have specific keywords flagged as denylisted when they are found within the image of a scanned ad. Click here, or speak to your account manager, for more information on configuring image recognition in your account.
